Current Situation
Have you ever wondered how much money artists make from streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music? Well, it turns out they don't make much at all. Right now, artists only get a tiny fraction of a penny for each stream of their music on these platforms. This is a big problem because streaming makes up a huge 84% of the music industry's revenue in the US.
The Living Wage for Musicians Act
Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib and Congressman Jamal Bowman have introduced a new bill called The Living Wage for Musicians Act. This bill aims to change things so that artists get paid a whole penny for each stream of their music on Spotify and Apple Music. Right now, artists need over 800,000 streams just to make the same amount of money as someone working a full-time job making $15 per hour.
Why It Matters
Tlaib and Bowman want to make sure that artists are paid fairly for their hard work and talent. By increasing the amount of money artists get for each stream, they hope to make a big difference in the lives of musicians everywhere.
Electric Keys by Karan Sounds
In addition to the new bill, the video also talks about a cool music plugin called Electric Keys by Karan Sounds. This plugin brings back the classic FM electric piano sounds from the 80s and 90s, giving artists even more tools to create awesome music.
